The college was founded in response to the Kerala Government's initiative in 1964 to establish more junior colleges in the state. Bishop Rt. Rev. M.M. John of the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese took the significant step to set up the institution, naming it in honor of the late Edward Moore, the fourth Anglican Bishop of Travancore and Cochin of the Church Missionary Society. Initially, it functioned as a junior college offering a two-year Pre-Degree course under the University of Kerala. Over the years, it expanded its academic horizons, introducing undergraduate courses in 1968 and postgraduate courses in 1982.
